AI × CRAFT
The economics of a hand-painted motif in the age of instant images

A generated image costs a fraction of a rupee. A licensed Pattachitra panel can cost thousands. To some spreadsheets, that makes the artisan look inefficient. We think the spreadsheet is measuring the wrong thing.
What the fee actually buys
When we license a motif, the payment covers the weeks of painting, but it also buys pigment for the next work, school fees, and the credibility that keeps a young artist from leaving the craft for the city. It is infrastructure spending, not image spending.

Cheap images are abundant. Living traditions are not.
Scarcity used to be a marketing trick. In the AI age, it is simply the truth about anything made by hand, and the entire reason each drop ends at 108.
