Description

This exquisite Madhubani painting presents a captivating bird rendered with the distinctive visual language of Mithila art. While not depicting a specific deity or epic scene, the bird motif often symbolises freedom, the beauty of nature, and auspiciousness in Indian folklore. Here, it is depicted in an elegant, stylised form, featuring characteristic double-line contours and a meticulously filled body that leaves no space empty, echoing the traditional Madhubani aesthetic of horror vacui, the 'fear of empty space'.

Crafted by Ashutosh Jha, an artist working in Delhi, this piece continues the vibrant legacy of Madhubani or Mithila painting. Originating from the Mithila region of Bihar, this art form was traditionally created by women on freshly plastered mud walls and floors for significant life events like weddings and festivals. Moving onto handmade paper from the 1960s, the medium allows for the intricate detailing seen in this work, where the artist's use of fine lines and dense decorative patterns, a hallmark of both kachni and bharni styles, is clearly evident.

This Madhubani painting is a truly one of a kind original creation, distinguished from any mass produced print. It will arrive accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity, affirming its unique provenance. We are pleased to offer complimentary insured delivery for this special artwork across India.
