Description

This exquisite Madhubani painting, 'Birds on Tree,' captures the serene interconnectedness of nature. Birds, often symbols of freedom, prosperity, and the vibrancy of life, perch gracefully amidst the protective boughs of a tree, itself a universal emblem of growth, sustenance, and the cyclical nature of existence. Rendered in the distinctive Madhubani visual language, the forms are elegantly stylised, with characteristic double-line work defining contours and dense, intricate patterns filling every space, creating a harmonious composition that celebrates the natural world with exceptional detail.

Created by artist Ajay Kumar Jha, this artwork showcases the rich traditions of Madhubani, or Mithila art, on handmade paper. Originating from the Mithila region of Bihar, this vibrant art form was historically practiced by women, adorning freshly plastered mud walls and floors for significant occasions like weddings and festivals. From the 1960s, the tradition moved onto handmade paper, preserving its hallmarks of stylised motifs, like the auspicious sun and moon, and a distinct aesthetic that often employs either the bold colour fill of the bharni style or the fine line and cross-hatching of the kachni style to tell its stories.

As a singular, handmade creation, this painting is a one-of-a-kind original, not a mass-produced print. It ships complete with a signed Certificate of Authenticity, guaranteeing its provenance and originality. We are pleased to offer complimentary, insured delivery across India for this unique artwork.
