This exceptional Madhubani painting features the majestic peacock, a beloved motif deeply rooted in Indian culture. Symbolising beauty, grace, love, and immortality, the peacock also heralds new beginnings and is associated with deities like Kartik and Saraswati. Here, the bird is rendered with the characteristic stylisation of Mithila art, its form delineated by precise double lines and filled with vibrant, intricate patterns that leave no space untouched. The iconic almond eyes give the peacock a watchful, elegant presence, surrounded by traditional dense ornamentation.
Created by Priti Dalwadi from Gujarat, this original work employs acrylic on handmade paper, a testament to Madhubani's evolution from its traditional form. Originating in the Mithila region of Bihar, this vibrant folk art was historically painted by women on freshly plastered mud walls and floors for significant life events like weddings and festivals. From the 1960s, artists began adapting these intricate compositions onto paper, retaining the art form's signature visual language of dense infilling, stylised motifs, and the distinctive use of fine lines to create depth and texture.
This beautiful artwork is offered as a singular, one-of-a-kind original, distinct from any print. It comes accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring its provenance and value. We are pleased to provide complimentary insured delivery across India, guaranteeing its safe arrival to your collection.
