Nāma · नाम
Before a thing is known, it is named. Nāma is that moment, when the formless is given a name and, with it, an edge, an identity, a place in the world. To name something is to call it into being.
The paisley says it in a single mark. Buta, the oldest seed-and-vine motif in Indian cloth, repeats down the front like the syllables of a name spoken over and over, hand-embroidered in blue on quiet white.
